In this week’s episode, we're joined by New Rural Project co-founder and Executive Director Cynthia Wallace to talk about the NRP's work in rural communities to increase civic and electoral engagement.
For some background, NRP was co-founded by Cynthia Wallace and Helen Probst Mills in April 2021. Both ran for office in rural North Carolina and saw that large numbers of registered and unregistered voters in rural communities simply did not vote. Recognizing the significant impact of this, as well as the opportunities to improve lives through the electoral process, they decided to tackle this head on. At the core of the New Rural Project is the belief that democracy thrives when citizens exercise their civic rights to the fullest possible extent. Such a democracy would see a maximal turnout of voters in every demographic group in every election.
Cynthia and Helen were some of our very first guests on the podcast after we launched in 2022, and if you haven't heard the original New Rural Project interview, make sure to listen here.
